It is also a fairly accurate synonym of horrible things happening to the entire planet. It resembles horrible things such as grief, loneliness, and depression occurring all around them. Because without books almost no one has their own opinion or idea, as if books were the shore of the beach and everyone else, such as the firefighters and civilians who wanted to destroy books, were the kerosene shore of destruction.
